Recipient perspective and register
Use bekommen and erhalten constructions deliberately and contrast them with active and werden-passive.
The rule
Recipient passive foregrounds the receiver with bekommen, kriegen or erhalten. Check register and lexical suitability; it does not replace every dative construction.
sie bekommt den Ablauf erklärt · man erklärt ihr … · ihr wird … erklärt
Recipient passive promotes a recipient to nominative while retaining an accusative thing: sie bekommt den Ablauf erklärt.
bekommen-passive is established in standard German, though constructions and register preferences vary by verb and context.
kriegen is more conversational; erhalten may sound more formal but is not an automatic replacement in every construction.

Details and useful distinctions
A simple haben or bekommen plus noun can express ordinary possession or receipt rather than passive.
Changing perspective must not change the participant roles. Keep the original recipient and transferred or affected thing identifiable.
