Valency changes with meaning

Choose a construction from the intended sense of a verb and preserve it when paraphrasing.

The rule

A verb’s frame can change with its meaning. Choose the intended sense first, then its preposition, case and required complements.

bestehen aus / auf / in · halten für / halten von · sich handeln um

A verb can have several frames with different meanings: bestehen aus describes composition, bestehen auf insistence, bestehen in essence.

halten für assigns an evaluation to an accusative object; halten von asks for an opinion with a dative prepositional complement.

es handelt sich um identifies a topic or entity; handeln von describes what a text is about.
